Gently sooth bloating and digestive discomfort with some ginger tea. Fresh ginger and water makes a very simple and effective tea for digestive health. Ginger relaxes intestinal muscles, increases motility in your digestive tract, and can reduce nausea as well.
And it's really easy to make: just combine a slice or two of fresh ginger in a cup or glass and pour hot water over it. Let it steep (rest) for a few minutes and then enjoy. To enhance the flavor, add a bit of lemon juice, honey, or other sweetener.
Some other food and herbs that help with bloating include:
- Fennel seeds. Contain several compounds that help release gastric juices and digestive enzymes to relieve gas and cramping of intestinal muscles.
- Pineapple. Contains bromelian, an enzyme that helps break down proteins and help reduce gas.
- Kiwi. Contains actinidin, an enzyme that aids digestion and reduces gas, and helps with digesting high protein meals.
- Peppermint. Contains menthol to help sooth intestinal muscles spasms, ease bloating, and helps reduce gas.
