Simple Green Smoothie

Simple Green Smoothie

I'm feeling very guilty about being gone from here for so long, but rest assured I have been planning recipes to share. Now to just find the time to test, photograph, and share them.

Simple Green Smoothie
I try to keep smoothies as simple as possible, and this one is no exception. It uses just a few key ingredients: banana, spinach leaves, lime or lemon, and water. It's in honor of my oldest son, who took off after college graduation too soon for me to test this with him.

You can make this richer in flavor by using coconut water or nut milk in place of the water.
I like using frozen bananas, but when I don't have them I'll use a fresh banana and then add an ice cube or two. And bananas with spots are the sweetest and preferred type for smoothies and other recipes that use bananas for their sweetness.
Also, I'm a bit conservative on the lime juice, and add more than ½ tablespoon if needed after blending and tasting.
This makes Makes 1 larger serving or two small servings.

Ingredients

  • 1 large banana with spots
  • ½ tablespoon lime juice or lemon juice
  • 1 cup spinach leaves no stems
  • 1 cup water as needed

Instructions

  • Add the ingredients to a high speed blender. Add most of the water and see if you need all of it once blending.
  • Blend until smooth.

Nancy-Kermit the frog sang "It's not easy being Green!",..but Green Smoothies are sooo good,..I love them with flat leaf parsley and or fresh mint,..spinach. Start with a basic pineapple, flat leaf parsley, spinach, honey, water.,....and then experiment with other fruits like melons, or cucumber, add ginger. It is so refreshing!

Yes, I love pineapple in place of or in addition to banana. You can definitely add on here! And a small cucumber or a couple of slices in this recipe definitely adds to the hydration. If you add cucumber you will need a bit less water or other liquid. Thanks!

So glad to see you back with a new recipe! Looking forward to seeing more. I have a thing about green smoothies; I'm sure it's mental but for some reason can't bring myself to drink them. I think I will give this a try, though, and break the cycle!

Yes, unfortunately not all green smoothies are alike. Flavor, consistency, and temperature are key to a good green one.
