Banana Chocolate Chip Crumb Cake

Mar 21, 2026 (Leave a Comment)

Banana Chocolate Chip Crumb Cake

If you're in possession of ripe bananas, specifically the kind with spots, you might be thinking it's banana bread time. But wait. How about turning it up a notch with this banana chocolate chip crumb cake. Sure you can just toss chocolate chips in your bread batter, but the crumb topping is calling out for cake formation.

Bananas and chocolate go well together however if you're avoiding chocolate, this banana crumb cake can flex to support chocolate substitutes like chopped pecans, blueberries, or other fine additions you favor. Or, to make this cake even more decadent, add some chopped pecans to the topping. And if you're a crumb lover, you may want to double the crumb topping.

I used these mini chocolate chips for the photos, but use your favorite chips. This cake works well with homemade chocolate chips, a finely chopped chocolate bar, or sugar-free chocolate chips.
